Mums just can't catch a break!

While perusing the SMH newspaper on-line today, amongst all the Oscar frocks and shocks I came across this news piece, titled Cafe chides mother for 'offence to humanity'.

http://www.essentialbaby.com.au/baby/breastfeeding/cafe-chides-mother-for-offence-to-humanity-20130226-2f2wi.html#utm_source=FD&utm_medium=lifeandstylepuff&utm_campaign=bf-cafe

The jist of the story is that a cafe manager, a woman, told a mum to stop breastfeeding her baby because it was a 'offence to humanity'.

SERIOUSLY!

It seems mums just can't get it right according to some people.

If you bottle feed your baby you are chastised by the "breast is best" people.

If you breastfeed in public you are chastised by the "offence on humanity" or "be more discreet and modest" people.

Surely the bigger picture is that all children be loved and looked after by their parents, whether bottle fed or breastfed.

Thoughts?

It's been a month...

ALREADY!!

Can you believe it?

Little Mr 0 is one month old today.

It has passed in a blur of burps, bottles, bodily functions and bad night sleeps (and some tears from Mummy).

I can't really remember where one day ends and the next day starts. I never know what day of the week it is....except the weekend of course.

I live for the weekends when Hubby can help me out with the night time feeds.

But I wouldn't change it for anything.

He is my little man and when he looks up at me with his beautiful big eyes and holds on so tightly to my finger my heart melts every time.

In the future I may not remember a lot about this first month (if I remember anything) but I will always remember how my little man stole my heart.

Do you remember much about your kids first month?

Nothing gets done pyjama days...

Having one of those Bananas in Pyjama days today and wearing my PJs like an outfit. Still in my pyjamas at 11am and nothing has been done - no tidying, no washing, no dishes, no bed making (who I am kidding I don't make the beds anyway), no calls to HCF to change our cover, and no time to call back friends.

To top it all off, the milk was off so I am drinking instant black coffee. (Since meeting Hubby I have been a coffee lover - a cafe cappuccino lover. We do have a coffee machine, however I don't know how to use it and don't have the brain space at the moment to learn....so instant coffee it is and this morning it is minus milk.)

Oh and should I mention - munching on Iced Vovos for breakfast.

There have been a lot of cuddles for Little Mr 0 though. Today he seems to have found his voice and he isn't afraid to use it. Actually I think he found it last night when Hubby was on duty - bless him.

I had forgotten these days when it approaches midday and you are still in your pyjamas and the house looks like an explosion of plates, cups, toys, arts & crafts and clothes has gone off.

Mind you, there is nothing wrong with it. Reminding myself again to not put pressure on myself to be perfect, have a perfect baby, a perfect preschooler and a perfect house with dinner on the table when Hubby gets home - it ain't going to happen! No-one is perfect.

The most important thing at the moment for us are our kids, so if I spend a day (or more) in my pyjamas surrounded by a mess plates, cups, toys, arts & crafts and clothes, so be it .....I just need to remember to at least get changed before I pick up Little Miss 4 from preschool this afternoon.

Ever had one of these days?

Rainy Days...

Rainy days for our preschooler, Little Miss 4, stuck inside with a newborn baby brother are HARD times! Not too mention for Hubby and myself.

Poor Little Miss 4 is bored to tears and trying to occupy her time when I have to feed, settle, feed, settle Little Mr 0 is tough.

But we have come up with some solutions....

  • Bake a cake - we did cheat and use a packet mix (thank you Mrs Crocker) where all you add is some vegetable oil, water and eggs because you never know when Little Mr 0 is going to wake up.
  • Dress up - so far she has been a witch and a hoola girl.

  • Face painting - sticking with the witch theme....we use Snazaroo face paints and they are excellent. They come with guides which is very helpful for non-artistic types like myself.

  • Painting finger nails and toe nails.

  • Play games on the tablet/laptop - currently we are playing noughts & crosses, building a reef for Nemo, and a find the object type game (similar to finding Where's Wally).

  • Watch a movie - we watch Annie or Mary Poppins for the millionth time.

Do you have any ideas for rainy days with a preschooler and a newborn?

Was there a favourite Christmas present?

Little Miss 4 eagerly opened her gifts on Christmas morning and of course there was a multitude - a doll, a  seat for the pool, totem tennis, trail-gator for her bike, books, swimmers, towel, cradle for her doll, clothes, handbag, wallet, pens, more books and more clothes.

Her letter to Santa, sent back in November, asked for a doll that could talk and a seat for the pool with a water pistol. The big fella did not disappoint.

The doll that can talk, and "poop" and "pee" is a Baby Alive - currently named Molly (it has also been Sally Cinderella and Tilly) - is her favourite Christmas present, along with her handbag that now carries Molly's bottles and nappies.

Last year was the same, the presents from Santa were by far the favourite.

Did your kids have a favourite toy? Was it the one from Santa?

Christmas music

When Hubby and I were searching for Christmas music for Little Miss 4 a couple of years ago we tried to steer clear of anything The Wiggles, Hi-5 etc orientated.

Thankfully there is a multitude of Christmas music out there - I don't think you are anyone unless you have released a Christmas album!

This could be a sign of my peerenting skills though. I love the 50's and 60's era of music....so our Christmas music playlist includes:

  • Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt

  • Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer by Bing Crosby
  • Let it Snow! Let It Snow! Let it Snow! by Dean Martin
  • Silent Night by Frank Sinatra
  • All I Want for Christmas [Is My Two Front Teeth] by Spike Jones

  • Santa Claus Got Stuck in My Chimney by Ella Fitzgerald

Thankfully Little Miss 4 loves these songs too and dances around the lounge room when we play them.

She does refer to Santa Baby as "the cheeky one" and is totally baffled as to why the little boy didn't get his two front teeth from Santa.

What is on your Christmas music playlist?
